BODY
With gray yarn
Round 1: 6 sc into magic ring – 6 sc.
Round 2: 2 sc in each st around – 12 sc.
Round 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] around – 18 sc.
Round 4: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 st] around – 24 sc.
Round 5: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 st] 4 times, WITH PINK YARN, sc in next 12 st – 28 sc.
Round 6: WITH GRAY YARN [2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 st] 4 times, WITH PINK YARN, sc in next 12 st – 32 sc.
Round 7-11: WITH GRAY YARN, sc in next 20 st, WITH PINK YARN, sc in next 12 st – 32 sc.
Round 12-21: WITH GRAY YARN, sc in each st around – 32 sc.
Round 22: [Sc2tog, sc in next 6 st] around – 28 sc.

EAR (make 2)
With gray yarn
Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring – 6 sc.
Round 2: 2 sc in each st around – 12 sc.
Fold in half, pinch one end, and sew shut across 2 sts.
TAIL
With gray yarn
Ch 8, sl st in 3rd ch from hook and sl st across.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
TONGUE
With pink yarn
Round 1: 6 sc into magic ring
Sl st into first sc.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
CROCHET BABY HIPPO ASSEMBLY
1.Sew the nose section to the head. See the photos below for placement instructions. To create the hippopotamus nose shape, you will need to make an inward indentation when sewing the lower section of the nose.
2. Sew 15mm Button Eyes onto Face. Placement: Right above the ends of the snout and 6 sts apart.
3. Sew Ears to Head.
4. Cut 2 small circles from pink felt. Glue to the inner part of the Ear with Fabri-tac.
5. Sew Tongue below Snout.
6. Sew Legs on bottom of Body. Make sure to stabilize body so that hippo can stand on its own.
7. Sew Tail to Back of Body.
8. Hide all Ends.
